Heard spelling

andrecium

Spelled androecium. a Latin vowel pair

Why is there an o before the e?

Because the second half of the word is oikos, Greek for house, and Latin spelled that opening oi as oe.

Andrecium keeps the e and throws away the o, a fair reading of the sound that loses the seam. The same seam sits in gynoecium on the other side of the flower. Once the join is visible, both words stop being arbitrary strings and become two rooms in the same house.
